Early Intervention and Special Education

Philadelphia Language Services is proud to have been empowering families through language access in the special education process since 2016. We interpret remotely and in person, and translate content, for the Delaware County Intermediate Unit, Overbrook School for the Blind, and Easter Seals of Southeastern Pennsylvania.

The Evaluation and IEP (Individualized Education Program) are at the heart of the special education process. A special education assessment or evaluation will show a child’s strengths and challenges, and determine if a child is entitled to support services and/or special instruction.

The IEP is a plan specifically designed for the child to help him/her thrive and progress in school. The IEP is created by the IEP team which consists of school professionals and the parents.

Communication between parents and school staff is essential to the creation of a successful IEP. Philadelphia Language Services’ interpreters are present at Evaluations and IEP meetings to bridge the communication gap between limited English proficient parents and the teachers, therapists and case worker on the IEP team.
