community and social advocacy

Philadelphia Language Services fulfills its mission to empower the community by partnering with organizations working toward social justice in the community.

We worked with PACDC (Philadelphia Association of Community Development Corporations) in their 2022-2023 Save Your Biz Philly program by providing in-person interpretation for intakes and business assessments and translation of business letters, flyers and applications in French, Chinese, Spanish and Indonesian.

PLS has been assisting The Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger since 2020 in its goals “to build a community where all people have the food they need to lead healthy lives.” We have translated its SNAP Immigrant Family Flyer and Summer Meals Toolkit into Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Vietnamese, Arabic, French, and Khmer (Cambodian).

Philanthropy Network Greater Philadelphia “ proudly champions philanthropy as a force for creating meaningful community change” and we were pleased to assist in this effort by translating into Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese and Russian its press releases and business grant applications during the COVID pandemic.

It was an honor working with Bloom Planning in 2019 and 2020 and Public Engagement Associates in 2022 on School District of Philadelphia’s Comprehensive School Planning Review and Facilities Planning Process. Translating presentations into Spanish and Vietnamese and providing conference interpreting in Khmer(Cambodian), Spanish, Portuguese and Mandarin we helped engage parents in these important processes.

Philadelphia Language Services is pleased to be assisting Philadelphia Coordinated Health Care in 2023 with their work to “enhance access to community physical and mental health care through education, public health outreach, advocacy and empowerment as well as to improve health care outcomes for individuals with an Intellectual Disability (ID) and/or Autism)”. We do this by providing Spanish video remote and in-person interpretation for their clients’ discharge plan meetings, meet and greets with agencies, and case management. Our interpreters’ sight translation of applications assists Spanish speaking clients with filling them out.

Philadelphia Language Services began providing in 2022 Spanish and Haitian-Creole in-person and remote video interpretation for HopePHL (formerly People’s Emergency Center) clients’ case management, counseling sessions, home visits and intakes. Bridging these language barriers we are able to assist HopePHL in providing housing, advocacy and social services.
